Exercise Can Boost Minority Health – 10 Reasons to Get Moving!

The U.S. has become increasingly diverse, and today, nearly 40 percent of the population belongs to a racial or ethnic minority. While life expectancy is generally getting longer and infant mortality is on the decline, minorities disproportionately feel the burden of serious conditions like diabetes, heart disease and stroke.  

April is National Minority Health Month, and this year, we celebrate the importance of staying active. New exercise guidelines prove that exercise can dramatically improve health, and every little bit counts. Here are 10 reasons to get moving today!  

  1. Lose weight. 
  2. Alleviate stress.
  3. Lower blood pressure. 
  4. Decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease. 
  5. Reduce cancer risk.
  6. Lower cholesterol.

Minority health is improving, but there’s still a race disparity that we need to work together to close. Exercise is a simple way to jump start your healthier routine, and while you’re at it, make an appointment with a nurse practitioner to get a checkup!
