Did You Travel for Work or the Holiday? Here’s What to Do When You Return Home

Did you recently travel for work or to see family during the holidays? Are you wondering what you should do when you get home? These are examples of the questions many people are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone stay home, as it is the surest way to avoid exposure to COVID-19 and transmission of the disease. 
 
If travel is unavoidable, consider these actions to reduce your risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19:

  •  Wear a mask at all times.
  • When around others, stay at least six feet apart. 
  • Wash your hand for at least 20 seconds and use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Monitor your health for symptoms of COVID-19 and check your temperature if you feel sick.  

If you start to feel sick or exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19 after you have traveled, the CDC recommends the following actions:

  •  Stay home. Avoid contact with others until it is safe for you to end your isolation period. 
  • Don’t travel if you feel sick. If you are experiencing any symptoms, avoid further travel and isolate at home until you have been cleared for travel by your health care provider. 
  • Consult with your health care provider. Be sure to contact your health care provider before going into their office, as they will have additional safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Keep your provider up to date on your health as you continue recovery. 
  • Monitor your condition for emergency warning signs. If you develop symptoms such as trouble breathing or chest pain, seek emergency medical care immediately. 
  • Protect others. If you live in close quarters with other people, take additional safety precautions to protect them from COVID-19.
